YOHUALTÉPETL
The pre-Hispanic site of Yohualtépetl is located south of the Sierra de Tepoztlán, in the northern part of the state of Morelos. This site was built along the slopes of Yohualtépetl Hill, extending into the small valley bordered by Yohualtépetl, Cematzin, and Tlaxomolco Hills. Based on data from the ceramic complexes, the presence of four stages of occupation at the Yohualtépetl site has been determined. The earliest corresponds to the Late Preclassic period (400 to 100 BC), the second belongs to the Epiclassic (700-900 AD), the third is associated with the Early Postclassic (900-1150 AD), and the last corresponds to the Middle-Late Postclassic period, between 1150 and 1521 AD.
To the southeast of Yohualtepetl lies the area known as Atetecaxtle, which corresponds to the Early Postclassic occupation of the site. This area is located west of the town of Santiago Tepetlapa, across the Atongo River.
