CUICUILCO
place of songs and dances
The lava spewed by the Xitle River between 245 and 315 AD extended southward for 75 kilometers, covering most of the core of the Cuiculico settlement, leaving only the upper part of the Great Basement uncovered. Over the course of 1,500 years, the top of the basement became covered with sediment and organic matter until it merged with a natural elevation, which was known since at least the 18th century as Cinquicuilco Hill. This large mound sparked the interest of Manuel Gamio, who invited Byron Cummings to excavate it.
